B&F Consulting, Inc. assists nursing home leaders with the “how” of change.

We help leaders put in place regular systems of communication. These systems maximize the opportunity staff have to share their intimate knowledge of residents. This allows for early catches that help nursing homes improve care outcomes. Your whole team can work together to make the minor and major adjustments in day-to-day operations that individualize care. We call this a whole person whole team approach.

What to Expect with B&F

Our work is grounded in the recognition that “our systems create our outcomes.” By improving organizational systems for engaging staff in individualizing care, nursing homes become better places to live and work.

We provide:

  • Customized services to help leaders build systems to support high involvement quality improvement, stabilize and engage staff, and initiate or re-energize culture change

  • Help taking on small and large changes using a “learn by doing” method. Leaders learn a process for change, and how to put in systems to involve staff. Leaders, supervisors, and staff strengthen critical thinking and problem solving skills that can be applied to future efforts.

  • Consultation, facilitation, education, and strategic planning services to individual care providers, state associations, culture change coalitions, state survey agencies, quality improvement organizations, ombudsman and other advocacy organizations, and workforce intermediaries.

  • Support through regional, company-wide, and statewide collaboratives toward common goals to improve workforce stability, provide individualized quality care, and improve clinical outcomes.  In these learning collaboratives, teams come together periodically for learning sessions, and then engage in action periods where they implement what they have learned.

  • Training for surveyors on the application of culture change to regulatory practice, providing a unique historical perspective on the intent of OBRA ’87, and the process for change from institutional to individualized care.

  • Assistance to ombudsman programs and other consumer advocates to engage in partnerships to achieve the promise of OBRA ‘87, and the related goals of resident-centered care.

  • Educational programs in disaster preparedness, built on our experiences supporting nursing homes that safely sheltered thousands of residents during Hurricane Katrina, and collaboration with California’s Association of Health Facilities Disaster Preparedness program.

Our Training Format

Our training sessions are completely customized to the needs of each organization. Before we develop our training agenda, we learn from the organization what its needs are, and collaboratively design the session to achieve targeted outcomes. The training is always interactive, and experientially based, drawing on peoples’ direct experience, and is designed to be specifically applied to current challenges.
